A Personal Aside.

So I'm in the office this weekend, spinning away on the hamster wheel for a pitch on Monday. Anyhoo, one of our proofreaders took issue with my handling of the word "tapeworm", claiming it's actually two separate words. As anyone with a passing knowledge of parasites could tell you, "tapeworm" is, in fact, correct. But I wanted proof. A quick visit to Google, and I came across this image...

Yes, we all see your yellow wristband. Yes, we all know of your unwavering support of the fight against cancer. And yes, we all know of your courageous $1.00 sacrifice that maybe, just maybe, will end this scourge forever. But may I suggest something, Miss Starbucks Counter Girl? When your yellow rubber wristband accumulates enough dirt that it becomes a disgusting shade of Dijon mustard, maybe you should wash it in some soapy water or something. If you close the door to the bathroom, nobody will have to know you didn't support Lance Armstrong for the three minutes it took you to take the filthy thing off your wrist.

Bush, Kerry Built Ford Tough.

If you're the type of person who likes to think of their presidential candidates in terms of brands, then head over here and get your freak on. Some of the brand associations aren't surprising (Wal-Mart for Bush, Sam Adams for Kerry), others are downright strange. Like People Magazine being associated with John Kerry? I would have picked Harper's or Mortuary Times.

Landor should do another study where brands associate each other with other brands. That way they could release a press release that says Starbucks thinks Folger's is like Gloria Jean's and Burger King claims McDonald's is so Hardee's. Then I can go weeping to the Account Planning department and have them piece my psyche back together.
